Higher Education Learning Briefs

Facilitating the Application of Scholarship to Problems of Practice and Policy

The Council for the Advancement of Higher Education Programs (CAHEP) of ASHE has partnered with Inside Higher Ed to produce learning briefs, research informed commentary on contemporary issues facing higher education.

Learning Briefs are designed to:

    Aid administrators in decision making
    Assist policymakers in developing policy
    Enhance/augment college administration course content

Formulated from Inside Higher Ed news stories, topical areas include:

    Organization, administration, & leadership
    Policy, finance, & economics
    Teaching, learning, & assessment
    Students
    Human resources (faculty and staff)


Learning Briefs include:

    Copy of the article, typically one receiving high comments or email forwards from the Inside Higher Ed website
    750-1,000 word commentary drawn from the research on that subject to inform practice;
    Discussion questions suitable for group/department/classroom engagement
    List of suggested readings
