CAHEP ASHE Pre-Conference Events

Early Career Faculty Teaching Workshop
Pre-tenure faculty and administrators returning to the classroom are invited to participate in a special workshop focused on teaching and dissertation/thesis advising. Teaching content and pedagogy experts will share their insights on teaching core subjects such as the history of higher education, organizational theory and administration, faculty issues, and gender and diversity. In addition, a panel of experienced dissertation/thesis advisors will discuss this critically important task and on subjects such as tactics for helping students select a topic and research methodology, keeping advisees on track to completion, and time management issues for faculty working with dissertation students. Presenter and exact topics information will be posted later this summer.
Participants are invited to join program coordinators and others for a collective group dinner at a local restaurant. At the dinner, we will be celebrating participant completion of the workshop and distributing certificates. Workshop participants are then invited to stay for our fabled roundtable discussion with program coordinators on issues of importance to higher education program leadership and teaching. Space is limited to 30 participants in the workshop. Application information will be posted here when it is ready later this summer.

Program Coordinator & Workshop Participants Dinner, and Roundtable Program Honoring Barbara Townsend & Early Career Faculty Participants
Program Coordinators are cordially invited to attend a special pre-conference event designed to support your work. First, we will be gathering as a group for dinner at a local restaurant. This will give us all a chance to connect/reconnect and begin what has always been a helpful time of reflection and idea sharing. We will also be recognizing the participants in the Early Career Workshop discussed above at the dinner and especially encourage program coordinators to attend who have members of their faculty who are participating in the workshop. Immediately following dinner, we will hold a brief business meeting and follow that with our annual discussion roundtable where attendees raise issues for collective discussion to the work of program coordination, leadership, and excellence.

Pre-Conference Session Program
CAHEP will convene sessions on Thursday morning immediately prior to the start of the ASHE General Conference. The focus of this program is on the understanding and enrichment of higher education graduate programs. The event is free and open to all, although program coordinators are especially encouraged to attend. All are invited to submit session proposals and all session types will be considered. Please see the ASHE Call for proposals for more information on how to submit a session in the same way as one would for the General Conference (deadline to submit is also the same). Questions may be directed to Adrienne Hyle, Chair, CAHEP at ahyle@uta.edu.
