Sarah Beasley: beaslesa@bc.edu
I am currently working on my dissertation, which is an ethnographic case study of college access and success among rural, first-generation college students from a high poverty, rural county in southern West Virginia. I spent almost five months living in the heart of coal country interviewing community members and college students from the area to better understand the rural culture and the factors that might impact students’ enrollment and persistence in college. My research includes students attending the local community college and those who are attending public, four-year institutions. If you are interested in talking about rural students and issues, college access and success of low-SES students, and/or ethnographic research, please feel free to contact me.
