2017 Pre-Conference Session
ASHE Annual Meeting, Houston Texas
November 9, 2017 8:00am - 12:00pm
In this interactive session, we will begin with an overview of the historical context and emerging trends in media coverage of intercollegiate athletics policy. Participants also will explore new media modes and emerging technology trends in scholarly communication and how to apply these strategies and communication tools in the context of public scholarship on intercollegiate athletics.
This session will also focus on helping scholars engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to convey research findings and adding their perspective to athletics policy discussions. Participants will also learn how to navigate the benefits and challenges of public scholarship in college sports research for their future success in the academy.
Participants are strongly encouraged to bring tablets or laptop computers to this interactive pre-conference session.
This session will be facilitated by Dr. David Welch Suggs, Jr., Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia and the Center for Leadership in Athletics at the University of Washington.
Dr. Suggs is an associate professor of journalism and sports media with a research agenda in sports, education and media.
