Outstanding Book Award

The Association for the Study of Higher Education invites nominations for the Outstanding Book Award. This award recognizes a book that has significantly contributed to the study and scholarship of higher education. Books published with a 2018 or 2019 copyright date will be considered for this inaugural nomination process. Books may have been published globally, but for the purposes of consideration must be available in English.

2019 Outstanding Book Award:
White Guys on Campus: Racism, White Identity, and the Myth of “Post-Racial” Higher Education, by Nolan L. Cabrera

"This is a very thoughtful book situated within its proper societal context--ongoing systems of racism and oppression in higher education. Cabrera’s book discusses the subtle--and not so subtle--ways that racism, perpetrated by white men, plays out on college campuses. The work is a significant, important shift in research on diversity in higher education, away from the vantage point of those who experience problems because of their diversity and toward the systemic structures that create those problematic experiences."

Call for Nominations

Nominations for 2019 Awards closed on July 8 at Noon Pacific. Award recipients will be announced in late September.

2. A table of contents from the book.
3. One representative chapter from the book that best exemplifies the contribution/impact of the book.

For books selected as finalists, the Book Award Committee will contact publishers for review copies.
