CIHE Nominations 2024

The CIHE Nominations Committee invites applications for the various upcoming vacancies. For all these positions we seek individuals who will provide outstanding leadership to an association committed to advancing excellent research and scholarship across the multiple and varied domains of higher education and contributing to the national discourse by linking higher education research and scholarship to policy and practice.

The CIHE Nominations Committee is charged with creating a slate of candidates that considers the vast diversity of ideas and perspectives, backgrounds and values, communities and commitments that our association represents, seeking leadership attentive to all.

Vacancies:

  • Communication Chair- (November 2024-November 2026): The Communication Chair will lead the Council's ongoing efforts to inform the membership of issues and events related to comparative and international research in higher education. Seek ways to engage members of the International forum in meaningful dialogue. Coordinate the development of newsletters or brochures and electronic forms of communication (including websites and e-mail).
     
  • Member-At-Large- (November 2024-November 2026):​ The Members-at-Large serve as an advisory group to the Chair and support the Program Chair with coordinating the International Forum program.
     
  • Graduate Student Liaison- (November 2024-November 2026):​ The Graduate Student Liaison represents the interests and perspectives of graduate students on the executive committee.

To Submit a Self-Nomination:

Nominees must submit their own nomination form.

The nominee must be a current member of the Association at the time of application. The nominee, if elected, must remain a member throughout their time of service.

A completed self-nomination, submitted through the link below, will include the following:

  • First and Last Name
  • Email Address
  • Telephone Number
  • Organization/Institution
  • Please list your current/previous involvement with ASHE. List as: Position, Group, Year (e.g., Member, Dissertation of the Year Committee, 2018-2021; Attendee, Annual Conference, 2019; Discussant, Annual Conference, 2018)
  • Please list your current/previous involvement with other associations/organizations related to your nominated role. List as Position/Group, Organization, Year (e.g., Program Chair, Division J, AERA, 2017; Board President, ACPA, 2019) 
  • In the space provided, write a 250-word maximum candidate statement in the third person. While there aren't necessarily restrictions on what you write, we encourage you to devote about half of the space to information about yourself and half to your vision for your position or the Association.
  • Agreement to ASHE Policies: Applicants will be required to review and agree to uphold various policies of ASHE including membership policies, ethics policies, conflict of interest policies, and diversity policies.
  • CV (uploaded as a PDF): Please include the applicant's CV.

Timeline & Process:

  • Self-nominations must be received no later than May 1,12:00pm (noon) Pacific Time.
  • Nominations committees will create a slate of nominees in the month of May and follow up with applicants and nominees.
  • The ASHE Executive Director will coordinate the election for the board of directors and council executive committees in the month of July/August.
  • Results will be announced to the ASHE members in late August.
  • Those elected will assume their role at the close of the ASHE 2024 Conference.

ASHE Nominations Committee members are required to uphold the ASHE Conflict of Interest Policy; Ethical Policies; and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy to ensure a fair process. Questions about these policies can be directed to ASHE Executive Director Dr. Jason Guilbeau at jason@ashe.ws.

CIHE Nominations Committee

Entity nominations committees may have a similar formation. Entity nomination committees must include at least three qualified and conflict-free members of the entity. These names of these committee members must be submitted to the Executive Director to ensure they meet qualifications and for recording in the volunteer database.

Members of nominations committees, respective entity executive committees, or the board of directors shall not but forth nominations for vacancies. These members may support the recruitment of candidates, but should not be the nominator of a nominee.

The board of directors nominations committee requirements are prescribed in the bylaws: “The nominations committee shall manage elections to the board, including soliciting nominations annually and making recommendations and recommending a slate of candidates. The committee shall be chaired by the immediate past president and consist of three additional members.”

Members of all nominations committees must uphold the Association Conflict of Interest Policy.

Members of all nominations committees must uphold the Association Ethics Policies, including annual review, agreement, and disclosure.

All nominations committee members must uphold and enact the Association’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy: “…those charged with nominating members for election or naming committee chairs and members shall diligently recruit for qualified persons representing the full diversity of the membership of the association” (ASHE Bylaws, Article 2, Section 3).
