Director of Evaluation
The Hope Center for College, Community and Justice at Temple University is seeking a Director of Evaluation to join our rapidly growing team. We are a national action research center that is redefining what it means to be a student-ready college with a movement centering #RealCollege students’ basic needs. We believe that students are humans first and that their basic needs are central conditions for learning. Our work is firmly grounded in rigorous science, thoughtful practice, and social justice. Based in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, we enjoy the benefits of working in a top research university while also collaborating with colleges and universities in communities across the nation.

The Director of Evaluation will be primarily responsible for provide comprehensive senior level coordination and management of the day-to-day evaluation activities, such as:
 
  • designing and planning evaluations; and
  • overseeing and designing randomization protocols and serving as an authoritative source on evaluation practices precedents, theory, methodology and principles.

The Hope Center engages in multiple evaluations aimed to inform practices addressing students’ basic needs and college affordability in higher education. Studies are often multi-sited, longitudinal studies utilizing multiple data sources and collaboration with both colleges and external agencies. All will be high-profile externally funded activities.

They will be instrumental in ensuring consistent and effective process and procedure around randomized control trials. The Director of Evaluation must thrive while handling a variety of constituencies, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and achieving strong outcomes in a complex environment with multiple shifting priorities. To accomplish this work, the Director of Evaluation will lead a team of researchers and project managers as a part of the Research and Evaluation team.

This position will be a part of the Research and Evaluation team; the Hope Center’s research team is a national leader in examining promising practices that aim to address students’ basic needs and college affordability with methodologically rigorous approaches. The Hope Center is uniquely suited to translate findings into practice and policy and the Director of Evaluation will work closely with the other teams to ensure effective dissemination of findings to policymakers, practitioners and other key stakeholders, in addition to contributing to the scientific knowledge base. Requirements:
 
  • Field-Specific Expertise: The Director of Evaluation must have a detailed understanding of the statistics surrounding design and analysis of randomized control trials.
  • Program Leadership and Management: This individual will have taken a hands-on approach in leading a variety of initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a track record of effectively leading a performance-based and outcome-based program and staff. They will have developed and operationalized strategies that have taken a program or organization to the next stage of growth.
  • Team Building and Development: The successful candidate will have recruited, managed, and developed a strong team of staff, program/project managers, and/or development professionals. This individual will serve as a “player/coach” to motivate and mentor their team. Solid judgment and demonstrable leadership skills
  • Exceptional Communication and Influencing Skills: As a voice/advocate for The Hope Center, the Director of Evaluation will have strong written and verbal communication skills. They will be a persuasive, credible, and polished communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills. This individual must work collaboratively with internal as well as external partners and other organizations, providing exposure for program impact.

Preferred:
 
  • PhD in economics, sociology/demography, political science, psychology, statistics, or educational policy and experience conducting quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods research and analyzing and interpreting the results
