Postdoctoral Research Scholar
Funded by the National Science Foundation, the Research & Equity Scholarship (RES) Institute's Postdoctoral Research Scholar position at San Diego State involves contributing to mixed-methods research projects examining STEM higher education for Latinx and other underrepresented, racially minoritized students at Hispanic Serving Institutions. The university invites applicants who currently hold a doctoral degree in education, social sciences, or closely related field. Applicants who have currently advanced to candidacy (ABD) in their doctoral program and will complete all degree requirements prior to the start date will also be considered. The position is to start no later than June 1, 2022. Earlier start date (as soon as possible) is preferred.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Management of ongoing funded projects; coordinate the day-to-day operations of research studies
  • Development of research protocols; support and coordinate data collection activities; and data management
  • Contribute to data analysis, manuscript writing, and dissemination and presentation of findings
  • Contribute to writing and the submission of competitive proposals for funding
  • Mentor/supervise undergraduate and graduate student research assistants who contribute to all phases of the research process
  • Provide feedback on employee progress and performance, training, coaching and counseling

Requirements Minimum Education
 
  • A doctoral degree in Education, Social Sciences, or closely related field

Preferred Experience, Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities:
 
  • Advanced skills in qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed methods research in education, social sciences, or a closely related field
  • Ability to start no later than June 1, 2022. Earlier start date (as soon as possible) is preferred
  • Background and doctoral level training in higher education research, theory, and/or practice (e.g., experience as higher education professionals)
  • Experience and interests in research on STEM in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing and contributing to collaborative education focused research projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong writing skills and demonstrated record of scholarship, including academic publications.
