Instructional Consultant
The Center for Research on Learning and Teaching invites applications for THREE instructional consultants, two with deep experience in curricular design, and one with experience in course- or program-level assessment to join our Foundational Course Initiative (FCI) team. All FCI consultants help lead collaborative course design teams, consisting of instructors, staff, and graduate and undergraduate students affiliated with large introductory undergraduate courses. We are committed to the idea that designing learning and teaching experiences that are purposeful, equitable, and effective requires a holistic approach. For this reason, our team-based transformational process integrates formative assessment, learning analytics, educational technologies, strategic design, and student-centered teaching practices.

Requirements General Responsibilities:
  • Lead regular working sessions with course teams, promoting collaboration by integrating diverse perspectives and fostering transparent and effective communication
  • Co-lead and contribute to all phases of the course design process, including vision, material creation, project implementation, ongoing evaluation, and assessment of impact
  • Develop and help implement short-term redesign projects and long-term transformation strategies
  • Help build communities of practice that are centered on equity-focused teaching
  • Collaborate with our Director and consultants to continue refining and enhancing our scope and mission
Specific Responsibilities for Curricular Design Role:
  • Examine course content and context (via syllabi review, student feedback, classroom observations, etc.) to inform pedagogical and curricular decisions
  • Develop comprehensive approaches and materials that effectively center equity in course curriculum, structure, and instructional practices
  • Develop protocols for student and instructor feedback, and analyze, interpret, and create visualizations of qualitative data, including from surveys, student assessments, and other teaching/learning related datasets
Specific Responsibilities for Assessment Role:
  • Develop, implement, and analyze survey instruments other mechanisms to gather feedback from students, instructional staff, and other course stakeholders
  • Conduct quantitative data analysis in support of course redesign work, and integrate multiple quantitative and quantitative data sets into reports or presentations
  • Develop metrics to measure teaching/learning conditions and outcomes and evaluate the broader impacts of FCI’s iterative course redesign projects
Required Qualifications:
  • Completed Doctorate degree and 1+ years of teaching, course design, or curriculum development or equivalent experience such as a Master's Degree plus 3+ years’ experience in teaching, course design, or curriculum development
  • Experience designing courses or teaching at university, college, or K-12 levels
  • Experience leading effective team collaboration (i.e. successful leadership of teams, committees, or substantive projects)
  • Experience participating in, managing, or leading strategic plans or long-term projects
  • Demonstrated commitment to building equitable and inclusive environments
  • Technical Requirements For Assessment Position:
  • Experience designing and conducting surveys. Knowledge of Qualtrics desirable but not required.
  • Strong background in quantitative data analysis, including descriptive statistics, basic statistical tests, and creating data visualizations
  • Proficiency conducting quantitative analysis with software such as Excel, Google Sheets, R, or similar statistical tools
