Job Summary:
The University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Education invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Student Success. The Associate Dean for Student Success is responsible for the administration and operation of the Office of Student Services in the College of Education and for providing leadership in matters related to the life cycle and development of students in the college. The office includes a highly experienced staff of advisors, recruitment and retention staff, a data/technology associate, marketing and communications staff, and student employees. The office is responsible for all aspects of student services, including enrollment management, recruitment and retention, admissions, registration, undergraduate and graduate student advising (in collaboration with faculty and departments), financial aid, orientation programs, degree certification, and college commencement ceremonies.
This is an exciting time in the UIC College of Education. We are expanding programs and increasing enrollments and we seek a dynamic and visionary associate dean who will collaborate with us to create a scholarly community that promotes racial justice and equity where no one experiences racism, oppression, discrimination, or marginalization.
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
Provide leadership for the Student Success team
Establish processes that support an effective and efficient work environment for Student Success staff
Lead strategic planning processes, including review of current policies and practices, goal setting, and initiative development
Maintain clear communication regarding Student Success service roles, responsibilities, goals, and outcomes, and field questions, concerns, and feedback regarding Student Success services and departmental needs
Serve as primary point of contact for students who experience difficulty
Promote student success across the college and initiate programs and services to support students
Receive and follow up on conduct notices from the Dean of Students’ office, review grievances, and consider dismissal appeals
Coordinate the undergraduate admission review process (including late applications and appeals), enter decisions, and review and approve undergraduate program admission criteria
Coordinate College of Education scholarships (organize review, notify recipients, process awards), and review and process hardship funding requests
Manage and respond to student compliance matters
Serve as an active member of College Administrative Council (Dean, Associate Deans, Department Chairs and Center Directors)
Attend Dean’s leadership team (Dean and Associate Deans) meetings
Represent the College of Education on various UIC committees, including Committee of Assistant and Associate Deans, and serve as Enrollment Officer for Academic and Enrollment Services (AES) meetings
Serve as liaison with the Disability Resource Center
Represent College of Education on the UIC African American Recruitment, Enrollment, and Retention Initiative (AARERI)
Serve as College of Education contacts for:
a. Dean of Students Office
b. Admissions and Enrollment Services (both Admissions & Recruitment areas)
c. Financial Aid
d. Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Academic Programs (VPUAA)
e. Registrar’s Office
f. Commencement
Plan December and May Commencement Ceremonies
Manage the Office of Student Success budget and the Recruitment budget
Complete performance evaluation process for all Student Services staff and approve staff paid time off requests, including vacation and sick time
Other duties as needed and as assigned

Requirements
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. or Ed.D in higher education or related field
This position may also be eligible for a tenured or non-tenured appointment, dependent upon qualifications.
Administrative experience and a strong record of increasingly responsible leadership in student services, including supervisory and management experience
Demonstrated leadership skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively with staff in the office and across the college and university
Experience working in a diverse higher education environment and a commitment to advancing racial equity and justice
Strong demonstrated commitment to justice-oriented, urban education;
Ability to deal sensitively with confidential information and ensure that the office maintains a high degree of professionalism and discretion
Strong written and oral communication skills
Knowledge of databases, Microsoft Office Suite, Web and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
