Institutional Research Associate (Remote)
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Research and Evaluation, this position assists in the administration of the University course evaluation process; completes Institutional Research requests and aids in data management processes; assists in the development of reports and research studies to inform university planning and decision making; answers various institutional, agency, state and federal reports, questionnaires and surveys; and provides support to faculty, staff, and administrators in the use of online survey and evaluation tools. The Institutional Research Associate will offer support, information, and guidance in assisting the Directors and the Assistant Vice Provost in developing an effective vision, strategy and procedures for the Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support (IRDS).

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities            

1. Support the processing and administration of course evaluations, including the following:
  • Coordinate and maintain course evaluation data, including querying data sources, cleaning and preparing data files, collaborating with Dean’s offices and other administrative offices to ensure data quality, and managing the secure storage of files.
  • Serve as a liaison to faculty and University administrators on issues related to course evaluations, including responding to confidential inquiries, providing technical support to faculty and administrators in the use of the online course evaluation system (Blue/Explorance), maintaining training resources on the course evaluation system, and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Coordinate the administration of online evaluation forms and distribution of reports.
  • Consult directly with offsite course evaluation vendors regarding budgeting, technical, and other relevant issues.

2. Report official campus statistics to external agencies including the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), US News and World Report, and college guides.

3. Develop and disseminate reports on official university statistics for internal and external audiences; develop reports in response to ad hoc data requests.

4. Troubleshoot technical issues and provide technical support to University faculty, staff, and administrators in the use of Qualtrics, LMU’s online survey tool. Independently monitor and maintain user records, including preparing data for the account renewal process 

5. Create and maintain data visualizations, including Tableau dashboards, for internal and external audiences.

6. In close collaboration with the Director of Strategic Research and Evaluation and the Senior Institutional Research Associate, lead or collaborate in the preparation of research studies to inform decision making and planning; conduct statistical analyses and prepare reports and presentations of the findings; present findings to relevant audiences.

7. Support survey research on campus through the maintenance of the University Survey Calendar, preparation of survey samples for large on campus surveys using various sampling techniques, assistance in the creation of survey drafts and reports.

8. Collaborate with other IRDS team members to support the validation of official data and ensure consistent data governance processes.

9. Participate in institutional research or other higher education professional organizations and keep abreast of national, state and local educational issues.

10. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requisite Qualifications

Typically a Bachelor’s Degree in the social sciences, statistics, or a related field (Master’s or Doctoral degree preferred). Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of emerging technologies.

Minimum three years of experience in data analysis, and research design and implementation in an institution of higher learning or other similar setting.

Experience with querying databases using SQL or other programming knowledge. Experience with Banner is a plus.

Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of quantitative research methods, research design, and statistical analysis techniques; established competency using statistical analysis software such as R, SAS, or Stata. Experience with Stata is a plus.

Ability to visualize data into interactive tables and charts. Experience with Tableau is a plus.

Familiarity with the academic enterprise and knowledge of key issues and concepts in higher education.

Experience with online course evaluation software (e.g., Blue/Explorance) and Qualtrics survey software, is preferred.

Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) as evidenced by the preparation of comprehensive research reports and executive summaries that present complex or technical information in an easily understood fashion.

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple and varied projects and initiatives.

Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals and diverse groups; demonstrated success working collaboratively with administrators, faculty, and staff.

Location: This position is fully remote, hybrid, or work on the Westchester campus. The incumbent must reside in the state of California.
