Executive Director of the Black Men's Research Institute (Open Rank Tenure Track Position)
The Executive Director of the Black Men’s Research Institute (BMRI) leads a multidisciplinary Morehouse College research and policy unit dedicated to studying the economic, social, cultural, and personal outcomes affecting Black men, particularly in areas where disparities exist in the U.S. and internationally. The BMRI Executive Director will ground the institute’s work in the scholarship of the humanities, arts, and social sciences while focusing on public policy, as well as focusing on diverse Black masculinities and the positioning of Black men in society at the intersection of race, class, religion, gender, sexuality, identity, politics, history, and creative arts. This position will have frequent interactions with Academic Affairs leadership; Humanities, Social Science, Media, and Arts (HSSMA); faculty, staff, and students; and many stakeholders internal and external to Morehouse College.

Requirements Terminal graduate degree in academic field offered within the HSSMA Division at Morehouse.

Capable of being granted tenure within one year of hire if an external hire.

Excellent leadership skills that engage faculty/staff as colleagues, provide clear explanations and rationales for actions, connect BMRI actions with Morehouse College’s goals, navigate professional dynamics involving faculty/staff and students, hold colleagues and oneself accountable to the Morehouse mission, and maintain a positive work environment for self and others.

Excellent analytical, writing, speaking, and team enhancement skills.
Strong problem-solving ability with sound judgment within appropriate Academic Affairs and College policy parameters.

High responsiveness to student and faculty/staff concerns.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills that promote effective rapport with faculty/staff and students, as well as individuals or organizations external to the College community.

High proficiency in synthesizing and presenting information in a concise and transparent manner to multiple audiences, internal and external to Morehouse College.

High level of discretion, ability to maintain high level of confidentiality, and work with restricted-access data or information.

Proficiency at thinking in multiple frames simultaneously, including BMRI, Academic Affairs, and College levels.

Must be fully vaccinated and boosted against the COVID-19 virus unless a valid health or religious exemption is verified by Human Resources.
