The Institute for Transformational Leadership (ITL) develops and sustains worldwide communities of transformational leaders dedicated to awakening, engaging, and supporting the leadership required for a more sustainable and compassionate future. Founded in 2012, ITL is home to executive certificate programs, professional development programs, workshops, organizational partnerships, custom programing, and thought leadership on transformational leadership; organization development; diversity, equity & inclusion; facilitation; health & wellness coaching; and leadership coaching.
The Academic Director provides strategic direction and academic support for program directors and faculty for the Georgetown University Institute for Transformational Leadership (ITL) at the School of Continuing Studies. The incumbent will oversee academic program integration, curriculum development, and instructional delivery for all ITL programs; provide onboarding and training for new and current faculty; and conduct thought leadership and industry engagement in the transformational leadership space. This position supports ITL’s goals of:
- Sustained growth through improved performance of existing programs and development of new programs aligned to the mission of ITL;
- Creating transformational learning experiences while managing quality to ensure a rigorous and beneficial learning environment for students and ITL faculty while controlling operating costs;
- Consistent branding and messaging aligned with ITL’s mission and the mission, vision, and values of Georgetown.
The Academic Director will have a faculty appointment (Assistant/Associate Professor of the Practice depending on qualifications and experience), serve as Co-Director for one Certificate cohort per year, and teach at least one class per cohort. This is a non-tenure track, full-time, benefits-eligible, renewable, negotiable term faculty appointment.
Preferred candidates should have a terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., JD, MBA, etc.) in a related field and five or more years of relevant industry and/or teaching experience.
This position is 80% FTE, and has been designated as Hybrid 1 Day unless academic programming requires the incumbent to be on-site. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position’s mode of work designation.

Requirements
Candidates should possess the following:
Master’s degree in Education, Organizational Development, Leadership, or related field
7-10 years of leadership coaching experience
Mastery of coaching competencies as defined by ICF
ICF accredited coach: PCC minimum
Demonstrated industry affiliations; connections to professional associations
Demonstrated knowledge of the leadership development, leadership coaching, and executive education markets
Subject matter expertise in leadership coaching and organizational development
5+ years of teaching experience at the executive level
5+ years of experience developing, launching and maintaining education programs preferably in an institute of higher education
Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong managerial ability
Ability to interact and influence at senior levels of an organization and to work collaboratively across functions, levels, and departments towards shared objectives
Strong writing and communication skills, including comfort with public presentations to a wide range of audiences
Ability to work cooperatively and strategically in a team environment
Sound management skills, ability to think strategically while balancing several complex agendas
Established skills in planning and managing multiple diverse and organizational needs
Experience in program management
Preferred Qualifications:
Published author and/or industry expert/spokesperson in transformational leadership
Ph.D. or other terminal degree in relevant field of expertise
