Assistant/Associate Professor of Higher Education
The Higher Education Graduate Program (http://highered.appstate.edu) in the Department of Leadership and Educational Studies at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track, nine-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor, beginning in Fall 2020. The Higher Education Program offers coursework leading to Master of Arts and Education Specialist degrees and has a strong regional reputation for preparing graduates for employment, advancement, and leadership in administrative and teaching careers at community colleges, universities, community agencies, and beyond, as well as for advanced graduate study. The position involves teaching principally in the Community College & University Leadership concentration and includes on-campus and online instruction, with the option of teaching additional summer courses as available. We will consider a wide range of scholarly expertise, and faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship and service activities. There may also be opportunities to teach and mentor doctoral students in the Higher Education concentration of the college-wide Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. Requirements Minimum qualifications include:
- Earned doctoral degree in Higher Education or closely related area from an accredited institution (candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires successful completion of the dissertation defense by the position start date).
- Demonstrated experience or potential to teach graduate-level courses in face-to-face and online environments using innovative technologies and approaches.
- Ability to occasionally teach doctoral-level research methods courses, particularly quantitative and mixed methods. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Appreciation and understanding of traditional and non-traditional graduate students, as well as adult professionals.
- Willingness to actively and collaboratively engage in recruitment, program planning, and program assessment.
- Commitment to the integration of theory and practice through teaching and scholarly activities.
- Record of scholarship that meets the requirements for status as Appalachian State University Graduate Faculty.
