Postdoctoral Researcher
The Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR) Lab, a research-practice partnership within the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Division of Enrollment Management (DEM), provides technical assistance and evaluation services to support various student success initiatives. The Postdoctoral Researcher will work closely with enrollment management professionals to evaluate the implementation and outcomes of various admissions review processes. The position requires prior experience leading research studies and expertise in college admissions and/or student financial aid. It also requires expertise in college access research and demonstrated commitments to social justice practices. The Postdoctoral Researcher will work closely with the lab's director (Dr. Nicholas Hillman), enrollment management professionals, and SSTAR Lab staff members in a collaborative and dynamic environment.

Duties:
  • Formulate and execute research studies examining various admissions review processes, practices, and impacts.
  • Manage and analyze data across multiple sources including administrative records, surveys, focus groups, and interviews.
  • Apply rigorous and appropriate research methods that are relevant and timely for practitioners. -Investigate the role of testing in various admission review processes.
  • Disseminate research findings via academic journal articles, policy briefs, and technical reports.
  • Develop and maintain research-practice partnerships with various stakeholders internal and external to the university.
  • Provide research guidance, support, and mentorship for graduate research assistants and other lab researchers.
  • Active participation in professional associations (e.g., American Educational Research Association; American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers; Association for the Study of Higher Education; etc.).
  • This position will serve as a role model by practicing exemplary, respectful and inclusive behaviors in all interactions. Participation in unit and divisional diversity & inclusion plans are mandatory for this position.

Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in higher education administration, education policy, or social science discipline. - Foundational understanding of quantitative methods is required.

  • Deep understanding of and commitment to educational equity is required.

  • Experience working on or training in implementation evaluation is highly desirable.

  • Ability to work across multiple team setting including university administrators, external partners, graduate students, and faculty.

  • Experience conducting rigorous, high quality, and meaningful research.

  • Experience publishing, reviewing, and presenting academic research.

  • Ability to communicate research findings to broad audiences.

  • Interest in linking research to policy and practice.

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with a high degree of attention to detail.

  • Ability to think strategically and manage multiple project workflows.

  • Working knowledge of admissions, higher education administration, and/or student financial aid policies and practices.
