Visiting Assistant Professor, Higher Education
The Department of Educational Leadership within the Watson College of Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks an outstanding Visiting Assistant Professor for a nine-month, non-tenure track/non-tenured position in the Higher Education program beginning August of 2021. This is a one year fixed-term appointment, renewable year to year, up to three years.

Primary responsibilities for this position include:
  • Developing and teaching campus-based and web-enhanced hybrid courses or fully online courses in dynamic graduate programs focused on Higher Education
  • Assisting in the ongoing development of growing M.Ed. and Ed.D. programs in Higher Education, including a graduate certificate in Community College Leadership
  • Advising students through completion of internships, culminating projects, and independent studies
  • Engaging in scholarly activities through research, presentations, and/or involvement with professional/scholarly associations
  • Contributing expertise to department, college, and university committees

  • Applicants for this position must hold a terminal degree (i.e., Ph.D., Ed.D.) in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field from an accredited (U.S.) or certified (international) postsecondary institution. ABD candidates may be considered, dependent upon projected date that the doctorate degree will be conferred.
  • Demonstrated evidence of engagement in teaching, research, and service that contributes to building and sustaining equitable, diverse, and inclusive communities.
Preference will be given to those candidates who:
  • Have a demonstrated evidence of successful college-level teaching and mentoring of graduate students.
  • Have experience and expertise to teach a range of courses, particularly law and policy, assessment, research methods, social justice, and faculty affairs/teaching and learning
  • Have at least 3 years of professional experience working in the field of Higher Education/Student Affairs.
