Visiting Assistant Professor in Higher Education
The William Mary School of Education currently invites applications for a visiting assistant professor non tenure eligible position in higher education that will have primary responsibility for teaching and advising in the higher education M.Ed., Ph.D., and Executive Ed.D. programs. We seek an individual to join our collaborative and forward looking program faculty, and a university committed to equity and inclusion through teaching, research, and service. We are particularly interested in applicants who have prior experience teaching courses related to college student development theory, assessment, organizational theory, leadership and cultural competence, equity and inclusion and internships. We seek individuals with experience in advising graduate students and supervising dissertations.

This visiting assistant professor position is a 12 month, three year, non tenure eligible ( non renewable appointment and is part of t he Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership ( Department. Obtaining the NTE position does not guarantee that the person selected for this position is automatically eligible for current or future tenure appointments with the university. The dates of appointment would be August 2021 to August 2024.

The position requires an eight-course teaching load that may be arrayed in a variety of ways, such as three courses in the fall and spring semesters and two courses in the summer. The position also require s graduate student advising and research supervision of master’s projects and dissertations. Though primarily a teaching and advising position, the School of Education supports the person in this role pursuing research alongside their eight-course teaching load.

We also invite the person in this position to engage in professional development opportunities provided by the university’s Studio for Teaching and Learning Innovation and in research workshops offered in the School of Education and other units on campus; we view the person in this role as a fully integrated member of our higher education program community.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:


We will look for evidence of required qualifications in the candidate’s cover letter and CV. The successful candidate must have:

(a) An earned doctorate in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or related field from an accredited university by the time of appointment (August 2021).
(b) Demonstrated evidence of inclusive teaching at the graduate level that builds engaging, relevant, and authentic learning experiences for students;
(c) Active involvement in professional associations and/or in partnerships in the field;
(d) Demonstrated evidence of established or developing research agenda that informs teaching and practice;
(e) Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and negotiation skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

Preference will be given to those who have one or more of the following:


(a) Prior college, university, or professional association experience;
(b) A strong diversity and social justice orientation
(c) Experience advising students and building authentic learning experiences to support student development and career
aspirations;
(d) Teaching experience related to student affairs, higher education administration and leadership, internships, social justice and equity, teaching and learning, and research design.
(e) Ability to teach a full range of higher education and student affairs courses.
(f) Past experience developing collaborative partnerships with campus units and organizations.
