Position Description:


Overview:


The mission of the Flora Stone Mather Center at Case Western Reserve University is a community space and social innovator empowering women and advancing gender equity though research-informed action.

The post-doctoral scholar will join a team that works to be a catalyst for positive social change by integrating research and advocacy to engage and inspire people of all gender identities to advance gender equity and inclusion. The person selected for this position will engage in advancing the work of the Women’s Center Education Learning Lab (WELL) and evaluation of Center programs for continuous improvement. Particularly they will support the development of the WELL by collaborating with external evaluators, practitioner-scholars, and researchers to develop an interdisciplinary action research plan and disseminating information on best practices and findings from original research to improve the practice of women’s and gender equity centers in higher education.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in an interdisciplinary field like higher education or women and gender studies with a research interest of women’s center and/or women and gender issues in higher education. With intersectionality as the cornerstone of their philosophy, the Postdoctoral Scholar will support the inclusion and gender equity for all identities and respect the diverse views and experiences of our community. In addition, the candidate will be committed to celebrating women's contributions to society, creating spaces for open dialogue, and promoting social justice.


Responsibilities:


Under the supervision of the Director and the Associate Director for Research and Evaluation post-doctoral scholar will:
  • •Engage in developing their own research agenda (20%);
  • develop an action research project plan for the Center (20%);
  • teach an undergraduate or graduate class at the Mather Center in collaboration with Women and Gender Studies or other departments (10%);
  • train Mather Center staff in action research methodologies (10%);
  • coordinate a scholar-in-residence program (10%);
  • conduct an oral history project on women’s leadership at the University (10%);
  • disseminate findings through quarterly briefs and through peer reviewed presentations and publications (10%); and
  • complete other duties as assigned (10%).

Working Conditions:


Given the field-based nature of this project, the candidate must be physically present at the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women in Cleveland, Ohio during the 10-month appointment and will be provided an office on site. There are no special health or safety hazards, environmental conditions or hazardous equipment or supplies. Must have personal, reliable transportation. Must be able to attend weekly staff meetings as well as work regular scheduled business hours with an occasional flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed for programs and events and travel to present at local, regional, and national conferences.

  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Must demonstrate willingness to learn new techniques, procedures, processes, and computer programs as needed (i.e. SPSS).
