The Wisconsin’s Equity and Inclusion Laboratory (Wei LAB) within the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) is dedicated to conducting both basic and applied research on topics of equity and inclusion in education, with a particular focus on higher education. Broadly constructed, the lab operationalizes equity and inclusion as efforts taken by organizations to ensure educational success for all of its constituents. The mission of Wisconsin’s Equity and Inclusion Laboratory (Wei LAB) is to design, conduct, and disseminate research that informs policymakers, practitioners, and concerned citizens on how to best promote equitable and inclusive learning and work environments in education in general and higher education in particular.
One postdoctoral researcher with expertise in Higher Education (e.g., persistence, retention, broadening participation in STEM) will be hired as a researcher on a National Science Foundation-funded project on “Black Men in Engineering Graduate Programs” under the direction of Dr. Brian A. Burt. The postdoctoral researcher will be included in all meetings with Wei LAB principal investigators (PIs) and will attend meetings with this NSF project’s advisory panel. The postdoctoral researcher’s development will be supported by creating an Individual Development Plan (IDP), receiving career planning support, preparing articles for publication, presenting research results to scientists, educators, and practitioners, engaging with interdisciplinary academic communities (e.g., higher education, STEM education, engineering education), supervising graduate and undergraduate research assistants, attending and presenting at lab meetings, attending conferences, learning how to prepare grants, meeting with the Wei LAB PIs, and participating in a semi-annual formal evaluation of progress.
