Assistant Director, Schiller Institute Programs
The Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society is seeking an Assistant Director, Programs, to support the programming and communications initiatives of the Institute. The Assistant Director is responsible for establishing an infrastructure to support and bring together Boston College students and faculty, and build community among them through the development and organization of Schiller programs. The Assistant Director, Programs is also responsible for the design, branding, marketing and communication of Schiller activities and programs to increase awareness of Schiller on campus and on a national scale, working in tandem with efforts undertaken by University Communications.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Develop and organize Schiller related programs, including student and faculty programs, conferences, and other events.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the programs, such as leading committee meetings, interacting with stakeholders, managing events, and building community.
  • Develop and execute the communication plan for Schiller activities and programs to increase awareness of Schiller on campus and on a national scale, working in tandem with efforts undertaken by University Communications.
  • Oversee, edit, and create content for the Schiller website; develop and manage a Schiller newsletter, including a national strategy for engagement; and create social media accounts and generate content daily.
  • Generate reports on Schiller programs, at least on an annual basis, to highlight student and faculty achievements, illustrate the impact of the Schiller Institute, and evaluate whether any aspects can be improved.
  • Analyze the Institute’s website, newsletter, and social media accounts, to track engagement and make continuous enhancements to ensure that the website is current and meets Boston College standards.

The Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society is the centerpiece of the 150,000-square-foot integrated science and engineering facility that is slated to open in late 2021 and will usher in a new era of interdisciplinary collaboration and research at Boston College. The Institute will take an integrative approach to research and pedagogy, with initiatives designed to investigate complex global issues related to the environment, energy, and health from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Key functional and technical competencies include:
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • This position requires someone who works well with a variety of personalities and possesses poise under pressure.
  • Must be able to successfully represent the Schiller Institute with internal and external constituencies with a professional customer service oriented attitude.
  • A solid knowledge of web applications and Microsoft systems including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. Ideally candidates will be familiar with Adobe Experience Manager or a similar website management software. Candidates should also be familiar with social media best practices.
  • Candidates should have a creative mindset and be excited by the opportunity to build new programs from the ground up.
  • Professional experience in higher education is strongly preferred, as well as in events management, communications, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Attendance and coordination of occasional evening or weekend functions will be required. Work after 5 pm may be necessary based on time-sensitive projects.
