Assistant Director for Research and Grants
The Assistant Director for Research and Grants has primary responsibility for developing, managing, and expanding the research activities of the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition as an integrated part of a Center-wide program of initiatives to assist educators to improve student learning and transitions into and through higher education.
 
To that end, the Assistant Director for Research and Grants oversees the ongoing original research agenda of the Center, identifies, pursues, and manages external funding efforts to support and expand the Center’s research agenda, serves as managing editor of the Journal for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition, coordinates the Paul P. Fidler Research grant solicitation and award process and other grants sponsored by the National Resource Center, and contributes to the assessment activities of the Center. All work is done under the guidance and supervision of the Executive Director of the Center and requires frequent collaboration with other Assistant Directors and Center staff.

Requirements
  • PhD or ABD in higher education, social research methodology, or related field such as educational policy, sociology, psychology, and public policy. Proven experience with quantitative methodology
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Professional experience working on research projects in the fields of higher education, college student development and success, the first-year experience, and/or student transitions.
  • Proven experience managing original research projects.
  • Previous experience applying for and working with grants.
  • Supervisory experience
  • Comfort with qualitative research.
  • Editorial experience.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness, accuracy, and strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Energetic, innovative, flexible, and thoughtful individual who can think proactively in developing Center efforts to serve national and international constituencies.
