Postdoctoral Research Scholar
The mission of the Research & Equity Scholarship Institute (https://res-iste.sdsu.edu/; Director/PI: Felisha Herrera Villarreal, Ph.D.) at San Diego State University is to promote scientific and applied research, training, and the exchange of information that contribute to the knowledge and understanding of P-20 educational trajectories and the contexts that engage and support students from diverse backgrounds. We are accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with interests in STEM education, minority serving institutions, community college pathways, and quantitative expertise and/or mixed methods expertise.

The postdoctoral research position involves contributing to large scale, NSF funded, mixed-methods research projects focused on the role of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) in STEM pathways for students who began at community colleges, with a specific emphasis on racially minoritized and historically underrepresented students.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • management of ongoing funded projects;
  • coordination of the day-to-day operations of research studies;
  • development of research protocols;
  • support and coordinate data collection activities, and data management;
  • contributing to data analysis, manuscript writing, and dissemination and presentation of findings;
  • contributing to writing and submission of competitive proposals for funding;
  • mentorship and supervision of undergraduate and graduate student research assistants who contribute to all phases of the research process;
  • and providing feedback on employee progress and performance, training, and coaching.

Requirements Minimum Education:
  • A doctoral degree in Education, Social Sciences, or closely related field
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience

Preferred Experience, Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities:
  • Advanced quantitative skills and/or significant expertise in the integration of qualitative and quantitative methods and analysis
  • Extensive, in-depth knowledge of one or more areas of higher education research
  • Experience writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed scholarly journals
  • Experience translating research findings for presentation to scholarly and practitioner/policy audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience with project planning and leadership
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
