Ayanna Samuels-Francis

Ayanna Samuels-Francis is a PhD student in the Student Affairs concentration at the University of Maryland College Park, and a proud HBCU alumna of Alcorn State University. Her research centers governance, leadership, and policy, with a focus on how structures shape student experiences, particularly at HBCUs. Drawing on her experience with the Association of Governing Boards, Ayanna bridges scholarship and practice on leadership in higher education. Her work is complemented by national conference presentations and publications focused on Black student experiences and board responsibility. She brings knowledge of and commitment to equity, leadership, and student advocacy.
