The 2026 Scholarship Cycle will open in June 2026
Through the generosity of our members, 31 scholarship opportunities are available for 2026 to foster a vibrant scholarly community for graduate students and early-career scholars. These awards support your growth by providing $250 to $500 for conference travel or credits for professional development events and annual memberships.

The ASHE Graduate Student Travel Scholarship supports graduate students attending the ASHE Annual Conference by helping offset travel costs. Awarded to first-time recipients, the scholarship reflects ASHE’s commitment to emerging scholars. For the 2026 Annual Conference, ASHE is committed to awarding at least 20 $400 travel scholarships to graduate students.

Evaluation Criteria
When reviewing applications, the Scholarship Committee will make decisions based on the following preferred and demonstrated attributes:

Significance of what the applicant will gain by attending the conference. Scaled by reviewers 0-5.

Applicants who were accepted to present at the conference receive preference in the review process. Scholarship Committee provides +2 points if yes. This will be verified by the ASHE Staff. Note: Proposal decisions will be sent out in early July by the ASHE Program Committee.

Applicants who serve in a volunteer role for the conference (e.g., session chairs) receive preference in the review process. Scholarship Committee provides +2 points if yes. The Graduate Student Impact Scholarship embodies the Association’s commitment to fostering graduate student professional development within the field of higher education. The ASHE Graduate Student Impact Scholarship will be established and endowed by a Dr. Kimberly Griffin in honor of ASHE’s 50th Anniversary and is intended to provide a graduate student membership and a $50 credit to be applied to an ASHE Professional Development event for 3-4 student members each year.
For 2026, ASHE is committed to awarding 3 scholarships, which include a student membership and a $50 ASHE Professional Development event credit for any professional development event(s).

The Dr. Deborah L. Floyd Scholars Mentoring Scholarship embodies the Association’s commitment to fostering graduate student mentoring and professional development within the field of higher education. The Floyd Scholars Mentoring Scholarship will be established and endowed in honor of ASHE’s 50th Anniversary and is intended to provide a graduate student with a travel scholarship and/or provide ASHE conference registration.
Preference will be given to graduate students attending the conference as the “only graduate student” from their home institution in order to address the challenges of isolation and limited support. In years in which there are no qualified applicants who fit this requirement, the ASHE Scholarship Committee can choose another qualified candidate for the award.
Recipients of the Floyd Scholars Mentoring Scholarship will be included in the Floyd Scholars well-established mentoring program established through the Florida Atlantic University Foundation, creating a robust network of current and past recipients and faculty mentors.
For the 2026 Annual Conference, ASHE is committed to awarding one scholarship of $500.

The Dr. Ann E. Austin Scholarly Promise Scholarship will support emerging scholars, specific those who have earned their PhD or EdD within the previous three years and currently hold a postdoctoral or faculty position (of any type, part-time or full-time, tenure-system or non-tenure-system). The scholarship will provide a $1,250 scholarship which includes one-year of ASHE membership, registration for the ASHE Annual Conference, and to support travel to the ASHE conference and/or other research and professional development activities.

Peck Assiniboine & Sioux (Dakota)), Kahunawai Wright (Kanaka Maoli), Nizhoni Chow-Garcia (Diné), Amanda Tachine (Diné), and Jameson Lopez (Quechan).

The CPPHE Law and Policy Professional Development Scholarship supports early career scholars attending the ASHE Annual Conference and the Council on Public Policy in Higher Education (CPPHE) Pre-Conference. Established in honor of ASHE’s 50th Anniversary through the generosity of Dr. Karen Miksch and Dr. Jeffrey Sun, this scholarship reflects a commitment to fostering scholarly inquiry that enhances higher education law and policy.
For the 2025 Annual Conference, the scholarship provides a $500 award covering the ASHE Conference Registration Fee, the CPPHE Pre-Conference Fee, and a travel stipend.
Eligibility Criteria

An early career scholar (i.e., within 3 years of receiving their doctoral degree) at the time of application and at the time of the annual conference in November.

Traveling to and participating in the CPPHE Pre-Conference and ASHE General Conference.

Research focus specifically situated within higher education law and/or policy.

Review Process
Each application will be reviewed by at least two reviewers. The review is a masked review and identifying information of each applicant should be removed prior to distribution to the committee. Any reviewer who identifies a conflict of interest will have the specific review re-assigned. The rubric used will be based on the criteria listed above to ensure objectivity and consistency in review.

Scholarship Committee
The Scholarship Committee shall be responsible for the implementation of the Scholarship Policy. The committee shall consist of a Chair who will serve a one-year term as Chair-Elect followed by a two-year term as Chair; four additional members who will serve staggered three-year terms; and one graduate student who shall serve a one-year term. The committee shall annually elect a vice chair from amongst its membership to serve in the chair’s absence.
