Awards
ASHE Awards recognize exemplary achievements and contributions to the study of higher education through research, leadership, and/or service to the field and the Association. The ASHE membership plays an essential role in identifying persons who should be honored, so please give each award your thoughtful consideration.
Nomination criteria and materials needed to submit a nomination are listed on the award pages. Please visit each award page for nomination criteria as it varies from award to award. Nominators are encouraged to collaborate on nominations in lieu of submitting multiple nominations for the same individual/group/organization.
All awards committees have provided Nomination Evaluation Criteria, in addition to awards descriptions, to provide greater transparency and clarity in the nomination process. This information is available on each respective awards webpage.

Association-Wide Awards
Association-wide awards are reviewed by the Awards Committee, Dissertation of the Year Committee, or the Outstanding Book Award Committee. Association-wide award recipients are recognized during the awards ceremony at the annual conference.
The Graduate Student Poster Award is presented to an ASHE Member(s) in recognition of an outstanding poster presented at the Annual Conference. All authors on the poster must be graduate students.
The annual award will provide $750 in two installments; a $250 annual award for the selected poster author(s) (all of which shall be graduate students) and an additional $500 gift upon submission of a manuscript of the poster presentation to a scholarly venue (e.g., journal, op-ed) within one year of the annual conference in which the award was presented. Additionally, the award comes with up to three hours of mentoring with the donors or another scholar that is most appropriate.
Council Awards
Council awards are reviewed by each respective Council's awards committee. Council award recipients are recognized during Council Pre-Conference events during the annual conference.
The award recipient will present a lecture during a special session of the conference, to be coordinated by the committee chair, ASHE Office, and award recipient. CAHEP welcomes nominations for a lecture and lecturer that focus on community colleges, gender in higher education, graduate education, and/or higher education programs and leadership/administration.
The Mildred García Award for Exemplary Scholarship will recognize seminal, exemplary scholarship that focuses on research and issues specifically related to underrepresented populations of color.
The García Award will be presented to one junior, nontenured scholar-practitioner (e.g., visiting assistant professor, clinical assistant professor, or tenure-track faculty) and one senior practitioner-scholar (i.e., tenured associate or full professor, senior/executive administrator).
The Awards for Significant Research on International Higher Education will recognize highly significant research outcomes in the field of international higher education.
Unlike a lifetime achievement award, or an award that focuses on a particular form of research, the CIHE Research Awards are focused on state-of-the-art knowledge and scholarship.
Two awards will be offered that recognize and celebrate significant research on international higher education: Books and Edited Books Journal Articles, Chapters, Research Initiatives, or Other Research that significantly changed the existing thinking on a topic in the field.
