Our scholarly community is a year-round home where you can connect with peers around shared research, identities, and professional roles. Grounded in a tradition of member-led engagement—and anchored by foundational groups like our Councils (CEP, CAHEP, CIHE, and CPPHE)—ASHE Entities have evolved into a flexible framework designed to support you at every stage of your career.Engagement in our each entity is designed to be active and accessible. Each of these entities offers tangible ways for you to contribute and lead:

  • Open Membership: These spaces are open for you to join at any time, providing immediate opportunities to learn, lead, and build lasting connections.

  • Volunteer Leadership: Every group is guided by a dedicated leadership team of peers.  

  • Dynamic Programming: Entities host a variety of events throughout the year, from professional development to scholarly convenings.

Councils: Focused on research topical areas

The Council on Athletics in Higher Education is a new entity, but has been an informal community since 2010, dedicated to discussing strategies for aligning college athletics within the study of higher education scholarship and policy. 
 The Council for the Advancement of Higher Education Programs works to enrich the teaching and learning experiences of the faculty and students of higher education degree programs and is open to program coordinators and others interested in the study of higher education programs and/or coordination. 
Previously known as the Council on Ethnic Participation, CEP- Council for Racial Equity, Praxis, and Presence is dedicated to the advancement of the concepts of racial in/equity and interlocking and intersecting subjectivities, systems of oppression/privilege, and justice. 
The Council on International Higher Education disseminates and discusses research to advance theory and practice in higher education from comparative and international perspectives. Additionally, CIHE provides a formal structure within ASHE that enables scholars with interests in international higher education to advance theory and research exploring contrasting cultural and international perspectives in the study of higher education.
The Council on Public Policy in Higher Education provides a collaborative space for researchers, analysts, and policymakers to explore and advance research on public policy issues affecting US higher education
The Council on Undocumented Immigrants in Higher Education is a new entity that brings together scholars who study undocumented students in higher education and creates forums for discussing research and practice on them.

Networks: Focused on role and/or career stage

The ASHE Faculty Affairs Network (AFAN) is a newly recognized entity of faculty affairs practitioners and scholars committed to sharing best practices and scholarship in higher education.

The Graduate Student Network (formerly Graduate Student Committee) was formed to expand opportunities for graduate student involvement within the Association, and it leads various programs and events for graduate students and connects with current graduate student volunteers across the Association.

The Scholar-Practitioner Network is a newly recognized network for bridging scholarship and practice in our current or future administrative roles in higher education, and for shaping the field’s understanding of and value for the scholar-practitioner as an integral leader in higher education scholarship and practice.
