Professional Bio
Gudrun Nyunt, Ph.D., is an associate professor of higher education at Northern Illinois University. Gudrun holds a Ph.D. in Student Affairs from the University of Maryland, College Park. Prior to pursuing a faculty role, Gudrun worked for seven years as a full-time staff member in residence life at three different institutions. Gudrun also served as a resident director for Semester at Sea for the Fall 2012 voyage.
Gudrun strives to conduct research that addresses problems of practice and provides guidance to practitioners in the field of higher education and student affairs. Her research focuses on three, at times overlapping strands: employment in higher education, student mobility, and mental well-being. Across all three research strands, her scholarly inquiry aims to highlight issues of equity and inclusion. Gudrun has published over 35 articles in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education, the Journal of College Student Development, and the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice.
