Professional Bio
Roman Christiaens is a higher education scholar-practitioner whose research agenda interrogates institutional investments in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), such as institutional policy, programming and practitioners, by studying how whiteness, racism, genderism and heterosexism manifest through these investments. Roman's research has also been particularly invested in exploring the intersections of rurality, transfemininity, and queerness in education. Roman currently serves as a postdoctoral fellow with the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) in the Center for Postsecondary Research at Indiana University. Their work has been published in the Journal for Diversity in Higher Education, Studies in Graduate and Postdoctoral Education, the Scholarship and Practice of Undergraduate Research (SPUR) journal, and the Review of Higher Education. Roman earned their doctorate in Higher Education from the Center for the Study in Higher Education at the University of Arizona with a minor in Race and Gender in Education.
