ASHE recognizes the historic and ongoing exclusion of Indigenous peoples and knowledge systems from higher education, and affirms its responsibility to support Indigenous scholars and scholarship. The creation of targeted awards and grants expands opportunities for Indigenous students and emerging scholars to access professional development, networking, and scholarly recognition.
A group of ASHE members have formed the Indigenous Scholars Collective and under the generous lead of Drs. Robin Zape-tah-hol-ah Starr Minthorn and Theresa Ambo has generously pledged a $10,000 gift to the Association for the creation of both the Indigenous Scholarly Promise Scholarship and the Indigenous Doctoral Student Travel Scholarship.
In recognition of this generous support. the ASHE Board of Directors establishes both the Indigenous Scholarly Promise Travel Scholarship and the Indigenous Doctoral Student Travel Scholarship.
The criteria and process for these awards will follow the ASHE Scholarship Policy. The scholarships will prioritize early career scholars and doctoral students, respectively, who demonstrate both academic promise and a commitment to advancing Indigenous knowledge and communities through their scholarship. More information will be available in Summer 2026 during the open call for scholarship applications.
