Professional Bio
Dr. Annie Wofford (she/her/hers) is an educator and scholar committed to advancing equity in higher education. Dr. Wofford is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Higher Education program at Florida State University. She also serves as the Associate Director for the Equity in Graduate Education Consortium (www.equitygraded.org). Her areas of academic interest include: Inequities in students' trajectories to and through graduate education; Social disparities in STEM higher education, particularly regarding gendered and racialized college environments; Equity-minded mentoring; Critical quantitative approaches to research.
Dr. Wofford's research has been funded by organizations such as the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the American Educational Research Association, ACPA—College Student Educators International, and P.E.O. International. Broadly, her research centers on students’ experiences in STEM—particularly the students who have been minoritized in the sciences due to their gender, race/ethnicity, class, sexual identity, and other social identities. With this research, Dr. Wofford aims to illuminate how institutions can create more equitable, culturally responsive environments and policies. She often relies on critical quantitative and qualitative methods to document new evidence about students’ navigation of undergraduate and graduate school experiences. Dr. Wofford earned her PhD in Education (Higher Education and Organizational Change) from UCLA, a MA in Higher Education Administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a BS in Social Studies Education from the University of Central Missouri. She also has four years of work experience in graduate school recruitment and holistic admissions.
