Professional Bio

Christopher R. Marsicano is the Katie ’90 and Stan Humphries ’90 Director of the D.G. and Harriet Wall Martin Institute for Public Good at Davidson College, his undergraduate alma mater. In this role, he serves as the Institute’s chief strategist and ambassador, leading Davidson’s flagship initiative to integrate research, teaching, creative practice, and community engagement in support of ethical leadership, civic education, and public problem-solving across the Institute’s five program areas. He is also the founder of the College Crisis Initiative (C2i), which now operates within the Allison S. and Thomas C. Franco Program on Public Policy and Research in the Martin Institute.

Marsicano additionally serves as Chair of the Educational Studies Department, home to one of the fastest-growing majors on campus. He teaches primarily in public policy and higher education within Educational Studies and occasionally contributes to courses in Davidson’s Philosophy, Politics, and Economics program. 🎓

His research portfolio examines the political, public health, and policy dimensions of crisis situations in higher education. His scholarship has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as PLOS One, Educational Researcher, and Research in Higher Education, as well as in policy publications including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. His work has also been featured in major national and international media outlets, including PBS NewsHour, NPR’s Morning Edition, Time, Inside Higher Ed, The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Washington Post, and The New York Times.
