Graduate Student Poster Award

The Graduate Student Poster Award is presented to an ASHE Member(s) in recognition of an outstanding poster presented at the Annual Conference. All authors on the poster must be graduate students. 

The annual award will provide $750 in two installments; a $250 annual award for the selected poster author(s) (all of which shall be graduate students) and an additional $500 gift upon submission of a manuscript of the poster presentation to a scholarly venue (e.g., journal, op-ed) within one year of the annual conference in which the award was presented. Additionally, the award comes with up to three hours of mentoring with the donors or another scholar that is most appropriate.


Nomination Evaluation Criteria

Nominations are not accepted for this award. Any poster accepted to the Annual Conference in which every author is a graduate student will be considered.

When reviewing nominations, the awards committee will make decisions based on the following preferred and demonstrated attributes:

  1. Poster is visually appealing and well organized

  2. The topic, issue, or problem is highly significant and clearly articulated, addressing a critical gap, challenge, or emerging trend in higher education.

  3. Literature and/or sources to support the argument/analysis (connection to relevant literature)

  4. The research plan, study methods, or modes of inquiry are well articulated, appropriate, and rigorous for the research questions posed

  5. Findings are highly relevant, clearly and compellingly presented, and directly address the research question and contribute significantly to the literature. 

  6. The poster is exceptionally well-written, logically organized, and easy to follow


Timeline

  • July: Awards Committee receives list of posters accepted with only graduate students as authors

  • November: Awards Committee members review posters during the conference poster session & announces recipient during Awards Ceremony. The first award stipend will be included with the award.

  • December: Award recipients are introduced to the donor to schedule three hours of mentoring.

  • By November (following year): Due date for submission of a manuscript of the poster presentation to a scholarly venue (e.g., journal, op-ed) within one year of the annual conference in which the award was presented. Upon submission, final award stipend will be sent to the recipient.
