Planning your conference

  • Review the Borikén Syllabus 2.0, particularly the section on 2026 Current Context | Water, Infrastructure, and Reciprocity for important information to be aware of as a responsible visitor.

  • Required Documentation: As a U.S. territory, Puerto Rico doesn't require a passport for U.S. citizens and permanent residents. As of May 7th, 2025, travelers will need to have a REAL ID-compliant identification, like a driver's license or other state identification.

  • Pack Thoughtfully: Consider you plans while in Puerto Rico. Consider a portable charger (power outages do happen), waterproof phone case/bag and lightweight towel (if you plan to enjoy the pool or beach). 

  • Tropical Climate: Plan for warm weather. The average high in San Juan during the conference will be high 80s. Be sure to pack a reusable water bottle to help stay hydrated. 

  • Wet/Rainy Season: Sudden rain showers are common this time of year. Be sure to pack an umbrella or reusable rain poncho. 

  • Pack for sun: Don't forget your sunscreen, sun glasses and aloe vera, sun hat, etc.   

  • Dress in layers: Days will likely be sunny and warm, but inside buildings can be cold.  

  • Spending Money: Most places in the area take cards, but you'll find some local vendors or businesses only take cash. If you regularly use American Express, be sure to bring a Visa or Mastercard back up as some vendors do not accept Amex.

Taxis & Public Buses

Taxis: Located outside Terminals A and B, with the main taxi station in Terminal A. Airport dispatchers provide clear information about pricing.

Public Buses: The Metropolitan Bus Authority operates public buses that can be found at Terminals A and D, making it a convenient option for budget-conscious travelers.

Rental Cars

SJU is home to around 14 car rental companies, offering options for every type of traveler. You can book your car rental in advance or upon arrival at the airport.

Ride Share Services

Rideshare options like Uber & Lyft are available at designated pick-up spots located on the ground floor of Terminals A and B. See signage in airport upon arrival to navigate outside to the designated meeting area. 

ADA Transportation

Companies like Island Mobility and Go Puerto Rico Shuttle are dedicated to providing comfortable, wheelchair-accessible, ADA-approved vehicles for individuals with unique mobility needs in Puerto Rico. 
    Self-Parking at the Convention Center

    The Convention Center District has approximately 4,300 on-site parking spaces that are available at first come, first-serve basis and are shared with the Cola Music Hall, Distrito TMobile, hotels and restaurants nearby.

    Parking rates for self-parking starts at $4.50, and are subject to changes based on events taking place in the District area.

    Shuttle Trolleys are available for pick-up and drop-off throughout the parking lots and the neighboring facilities.
